Every year during the Comrades Marathon, the Releaf Campaign raises much needed funds for a variety of sustainable community projects that have a direct impact on conservation initiatives. For example, one of the programmes encourages rural communities to grow indiginous tree seedlinds which are then bartered for food, bicycles and supplies. Wildlands Conservation Trust (who runs the programmes) then plants these trees in carbon sinks to offset South Africa's CO2 emissions.
